RIP Zsa Zsa Gabor

Zsa Zsa Gabor (apparently Gábor Zsazsa in her native Hungary), who married one husband for every decade she lived (i.e., 9), has passed away at the age of 99.  Of course she started marrying husbands after she was of legal age, so some of them had to double up. The reason I mention her husbands rather than some other of her achievements is that, whenever her name came up during her prime, her multitudinous marriages (and divorces) came up too, usually first. It seemed to be her claim to fame.

Here is a list of all those husbands with photos.

She did seem to be a pioneer in the now popular state of 'being famous for being famous.' In fact, Paris Hilton, one of the most famous persons famous for being famous is Zsa Zsa's step-great-granddaughter by way of her 2nd husband, Conrad Hilton.

But Ms. Gabor had some other achievements under her diamond-encrusted belt. She was a movie and TV actress, appearing in Gilligan's Island and Batman (my two favorite roles!), and was the lead actress in Moulin Rouge in 1952, for which she got decent reviews. She was also in Orson Welles’ Touch of Evil and the great and awe-inspiring Queen of Outer Space, which no one should finish their life without seeing.

She was also Miss Hungary in 1936, but unfortunately too young (19) to go on and compete for Miss Europe. In 1989 she slapped a Beverly Hills policemen for giving her a ticket, and had to serve 3 days in jail for it.

Zsa Zsa had declared her intention to return to Hungary for her 100th birthday (which would have been this February 6th) and spend her final days there. It's sad that she didn't quite make it.

RIP, Ms. Gabor.

Camel Regulations

Camel accident waiting to happen

In Iran they have a problem. When in hot pursuit through the desert sands of a criminal riding a souped up camel, the Dromedary Police have a hard time identifying the driver. During a high speed chase the culprit can just duck into the nearest camel market or oasis and be lost in the crowd because, well, camels all look pretty much the same.

And then there are all the camel accidents. A three or four camel pile up can lead to havoc on the road and result in serious injuries.

Well, no more! Not in the southern province of Sistan and Baluchestan at least, where they have implemented the wise policy of requiring all camels to have license plates. 95,000 animals are wearing them so far.

Soon the highways of Iran will be safe again.

A Little Research Could Have Helped!

Every federal agent's weakness!
When you're bribing the FBI it's vitally important to offer something that's enticing... tempting... something you're sure they can't resist. Especially if you want them to do something illegal for you. Unfortunately for Arnold O. Jones II, senior resident Superior Court judge in Wayne County, North Carolina, he seriously misjudged his target.

All he wanted, he told his friend Agent Matthew Miller, was for him to obtain some text messages for the Judge... sent by his wife and another man.

"No can do," said Agent Miller. "It takes a search warrant for the FBI to look at texts."

"Pleeeease?" Judge Jones II pleaded.

"Nope."

"Well, how about if I throw in something to make it worth your while?"

"Like what," asked the agent?

"Something good... like... TWO CASES OF BUD LIGHT??!! Huh?  Huh?? How 'bout that?"

A few days later a SWAT team descended upon the Judge's home where he was arrested at gunpoint.

Let this be a lesson to us all.

Fined for not paying your fine right

The Austrian national motto: "Pay up!"

I get the feeling Austria is a rather uptight country. What makes me think that? Well, if you are assessed a fine in Austria, not only do you have to pay it, you have to pay it precisely.  Paying less than required will get you in trouble, of course. And paying more than your fine... will get you fined!

Ferguson on TV

Whatever else you want to say about the situation in Ferguson, Missouri, you have to admit this: The Saint Louis Police have a real tin ear for how tear gas, squads of troops, and armored personnel carriers will play on TV.
