Five Reasons Sarah Boyle Took Off
Like a lot of people I saw the video of Sarah Boyle blowing the socks off that british talent show, and my eyes teared up. Since then a lot of electronic ink has been spilled trying to explain why this happened or, alternatively, why it shouldn't have happened. Some have tried to convince us that it happened because we're all predjudiced against beautiful things emerging from homely people. Beyond all doubt we are infested with that prejudice, but appealing to it in this case misses the point entirely.
Sarah Boyle went viral because she appeals to one of our deepest myths, the myth of a Divine gift in a common vessel. It wasn't just that she's middle aged and her eyebrows hadn't been plucked; nothing at all about her demenor even hinted at the ability that she proceded to reveal...

"Susan Boyle is a good singer but only “conservative” audience liked her style. I doubt that she can ever break out her current style to sing and dance like Madonna or Britney Spears. It takes a lot of training and courage to show more skin and to dance like having sex with an invisible man."
