Greenhouse Setback

The fortunes of space exploration are not always kind. The Orbiting Carbon Observatory (or OCO), which scientists have been working on since Al Gore was Vice-President, is no more. Launched early this morning from our California spaceport so it could attain a polar orbit, OCO was to engage in a 2 year study of the major greenhouse gas.

But due to a malfunction in its Taurus booster rocket it did not make it to orbit and evidently hit the ocean somewhere near Antartica.
